Module 04

Working Together

The Bible has a great deal to say about each individual’s right and responsibility to think and to choose and act. That said, if the value of individuals becomes individualism, there’s bound to be trouble.

If the value of individuals becomes individualism— promoting self-fulfillment as what we owe ourselves at all costs—there’s bound to be trouble.

Working Together—Module 4 in the Scriptural Roots of Commerce—explores relationships (from the bedroom to the boardroom) in God’s kingdom.

We are linked together by design. The poet John Donne saw it. “No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent,” he wrote. “Any man’s death diminishes me because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” In that respect Christian faith must always be communal.

This module searches the Bible from end to end, learning how to form Christian communities where people are safe to grow together toward wholeness—beginning right where they are (not where they’re supposed to be), and continuing to grow for the rest of their lives.

Bringing all that into the dog-eat-dog context of business is the challenge—and the reason such communities are important.
