Our friend, the leader development guru Ron Magnus, got an interesting wish list in an email. The list reflects what people want in the next generation of business leaders. Early-stage research: “indicates a need for a new generation of leaders who are:
- ethically and morally grounded
- servant leader orientated
- have great character traits (trustworthy, responsible, integrous, respectful, kind, etc.)
- level 5 leaders (Jim Collins in Good to Great)
- grounded in a strong Christian worldview”
That list is pretty encouraging to us because that’s a core activity at InsideWork — helping business leaders develop a new generation of leaders to take their companies forward.
How does this next-gen leadership wish list compare to what’s on your own wish list for successors?
Or maybe you’re on the other end of the transaction… If so, what do you wish senior leaders would do to prepare for the coming transition in your company? Or do you even plan to be around when it happens?
Take a moment to look at Psalm 69: 16-18. What connections can you make from that passage to succession planning in your company?
