Google just launched a new search portal for all things governmental. Google U.S. Government Search narrows search results to federal, state and local government web sites, producing better results for the searcher.
The front page includes headlines and links to the Department of Defense American Forces Information Services, the White House News site, Government Executive Magazine, Google News: Top Government Stories and The Washington Post Federal Page. Oh, and the Washington, DC weather (where it is currently 83 degrees with a pleasantly low humidity of 18%).
A Government Solutions link leads to “Google Enterprise Solutions for Government.”;
You can customize your own page by including additional content — say the Bureau of Economic Analysis News site, the Census Bureau Population Clock, or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention News.
Honestly, if you deal with the government — and who doesn’t from time to time — Google just shortened the distance between you and the information you need. Now, if the publishing industry will relax just a hair, I believe I read something about Google standing ready to do the same thing there.

I think google.gov. is a brilliant tool to keep the public aware and the government on their toes for accountability. When I taught school, that’s all I heard. “This is the age of accountability and so I was.” I think it’s way passed time that congress was also!
