The message of the Kingdom of God is no stranger to traveling the routes of commerce. Abraham traversed the Fertile Crescent of the ancient Middle East out from the commercial center of Ur. Solomon made Israel a global trade powerhouse. First-century Christians traveled the empire-wide infrastructure of roads and shipping established by the Romans, taking advantage of the “flat world” created by the globalizing forces of their day. Today, your local business can reach globally, something unheard-of a decade ago.
This is why I believe that the most influential representatives of the Kingdom of God can be business people and professionals.
Stretch your perspective and your vision. Read through the series of articles at Inc.com called Gone Global: Why Expanding Overseas is your Ticket to New Markets, New Ideas, and a World of Adventure. In particular, note how Asian entrepreneurs are intending to compete in the U.S. Also check out the maps that assess opportunity and danger, country by country. I also liked the slideshow, Globalization at a Glance, chronicling the rise of globalization.
New markets and vistas. New ideas. A world of adventure. That’s what I’ve always experienced trying to live as a citizen of the Kingdom of God!
