The Dog’s Dilemma

Do people in your organization hang onto practices that, though they may have been remarkable at one time, now border on useless?

Do you have colleagues whose worldviews are constrained by the fear of losing something they no longer possess (if they ever did)?

The question is, How do we talk about the difficulty of letting go of things that don’t work in order to take hold of things we hope — but can’t guarantee — will work?

One answer is this digital movie about a dog, a bone, half a pound of ground beef and an offer. It’s called The Dog’s Dilemma.

Do you deal with decision makers who are paralyzed by unwillingness to make choices until change is forced on them?

Do you know people for whom the offer of a place at the table in God’s kingdom sounds like too much to hope for but too small a reward for surrendering their claims to personal autonomy

The Dog’s Dilemma won’t fix those people but it may open dialogue about risk and reward. You can get the conversation started by asking questions like:

  • Who are we most like in The Dog’s Dilemma?
  • Which character do you most identify with: the Lawn Chair Guy? the Dog? the Master? the Ground Beef? the Bone!
  • Where are we at in this process? Just realizing there’s a choice to be made? Protecting what’s ours? Sniffing out the alternative? Tempted but afraid to risk? Right at the point of deciding?
  • What stands between us (or you) and dropping the bone?

Or you can deploy InsideWork’s Three Best Questions…Ever.

We’re curious sorts, so let us know what you do with The Dog’s Dilemma.

A slightly abbreviated version of The Dog’s Dilemma (at a resolution suitable for projection from your computer) is available for download as a QuickTime movie or WMV media file.
